Tony Lynch bids to retain advantage at Mondello Park

Wigan racer Tony Lynch will look to retain his advantage at the head of the Retro Rallycross Championship standings when the series heads for Mondello Park this weekend for rounds three and four of the campaign.

The Landsail Tyres Team Geriatric driver enjoyed a solid start to his title defence at Lydden Hill back in April, securing second place in the opening round of the campaign before then picking up his first victory of 2023 in round two.

Despite the near two-month gap between events, Tony and the team have been hard at work on the title-winning Toyota MR2 in a bid to remain out front in the points, whilst the multiple champion also took up an invitation to visit the Lohéac circuit in France for the inaugural Rallycross Legends Festival.

There, Tony secured second place in his class with the Toyota to continue an impressive run of results with the car stretching back into last season.

Whilst a smaller than usual Retro class entry will make the journey to Ireland, Tony will be eager to put on a strong performance on track, with the potential to put a big haul of points on the board to strengthen his position – with closest rival Terry Moore amongst those drivers not in action.

“Mondello Park is a circuit we haven’t visited in a while, but it’s one where we’ve been successful in the past in other classes,” Tony admitted. “We’re going there in confident mood on the back of the results at Lydden Hill and also at Lohéac, where we showed strong pace on track with the MR2.

“It’s unfortunate that a number of cars aren’t making the trip but all we can focus on is beating those that are on track with us, and we need to make sure we maximise the opportunity to score some really big points.

“As ever, the team has done a great job in preparing the car for the weekend ahead and it’s now down to me to deliver the goods behind the wheel.”
