Lynch goes for glory in season finale

Wigan racer Tony Lynch will hope to end his season on a high when the MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with ODYSSEY Battery heads for Croft this weekend for the final round of the year.

Westhoughton-based Tony goes into the season finale leading the way in the Supernational class standings, with a 13 point lead once dropped scores are taken into account.

A top five finish this weekend would be enough to take the title, although Tony goes into the Croft meeting well aware that he can’t take anything for granted after driveshaft issues last time at Pembrey forced him into retirement.

Since that disappointment, Tony’s Lucas Oil Team Geriatric squad has worked hard to make sure his Ford KA is fighting fit for the finale in order to provide him with the best chance of securing the title in what promises to be a frenetic weekend on track.

However, Tony insists he is in relaxed mood as he bids to wrap up a first title with the KA, which has rapidly become the car to beat in the Supernational category.

“Obviously it would have been nice to wrap up the title at Pembrey, but we still have a lead to take into the final round which I’m aiming to maintain,” he said. “I know what I need to do and I’m not feeling under any pressure as it is down to the others to try and overcome the lead I currently have.

“Ahead of the weekend, we’ve been working hard to make sure the KA is at its best and also focused on making sure the car is as reliable as it could possibly be for the final meeting.

“Make no mistake, I’m going to Croft to fight for victory but at the same time, I’m not going to do anything stupid with the championship to consider. I know what needs to done and I’ll be doing everything I can to wrap up a title that will exceed the expectations we had at the start of the year.”
