Lynch out to impress in Welsh double-header
Wigan racer Tony Lynch will seek to build on his winning start to the Autosport International BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship in partnership with Toyo Tires season when the series heads to Pembrey this weekend.
The Welsh circuit will play host to the second and third rounds of the campaign, with Westhoughton-based Tony looking to maintain the impressive form that saw him take victory in the Supermodified class at Blyton.
Tony’s Lucas Oil Team Geriatric-run Ford KA proved to be the class of the field during the first meeting of the year to leave him top of the early season championship standings.
Another strong performance this weekend would allow Tony to build on that form to strengthen his advantage in both the class and overall points, with his aim being clear for the meeting ahead.
“Obviously we had a great start to the year with the win in round one and there is no reason why we can’t hope to repeat it this weekend,” he said. “Pembrey is a circuit where we have gone well in the past and with two rounds taking place, we can hopefully put some good points on the board.
“Of course it won’t be easy and we have to be careful not to do anything stupid in round two which could then impact us in round three, but we are heading for Wales in confident mood.
“The whole team is working well together and having been given a real boost with the result at Blyton, our focus is on bringing home more silverware.”
Ahead of the Pembrey weekend, Tony joined fellow members of the Wigan and District Motor Club in attending a special family fun day at his local Three Sisters circuit.
The event saw drivers, and riders, from a number of disciplines come together to showcase the various forms of motorsport that race at the circuit near Wigan – with a bumper crowd being drawn in by the favourable Bank Holiday weather.
“It was great to be asked to the event at Three Sisters and the day was a huge success,” he said. “There was a lot of interest in the rallycross car and it was a good way to help promote our sponsors and showcase their products to a new audience.”
