Tony Lynch readies for RX150 debut

Wigan racer Tony Lynch is set for a fresh challenge this weekend at Lydden Hill when he makes his RX150 debut during the final meeting of the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy season.

Tony will swap his Landsail Tyres Team Geriatric-run Toyota MR2 for one of the lightweight RX150 buggies having already successfully secured the Retro Rallycross Championship crown, having taken an unassailable lead in the standings with two rounds to run during the Pembrey event back in August.

The decision to enter the RX150 class for the weekend will see Tony join forces with the experienced RX Racing squad, and that experience will be vital with work commitments having prevented him from testing one of the buggies ahead of the weekend.

With that in mind, the goal for the weekend ahead is for Tony to maximise his time on track and enjoy the experience of something new, with the unique RX150 machine being unlike anything he has raced in his career to date.

“When I first had the idea of taking part in an event in the RX150, the aim was to get out on track and have a test in the buggy before the weekend to make sure I was fully up to speed,” he said.

“Unfortunately, work commitments have got in the way a bit and that hasn’t been possible, which means I’m heading into Lydden Hill having not even been able to sit in the buggy yet.

“Considering that, I think it would be a bit daft to make big statements about what I’m going to do on track, so instead my focus is just on having fun and enjoying the experience. If I can come away from Lydden with a strong result then great, but if not, then it isn’t the end of the world.”
