Tony Lynch targets further success on Lydden return
Tony Lynch will look to build on the double win he secured at Mondello Park back in May when his Retro Rallycross Championship campaign resumes at Lydden Hill this weekend.
The trip to Ireland marked Tony’s first outing of the year at the wheel of his Landsail Team Geriatric-run Toyota MR2 after off-season surgery forced him to sit out the opening meeting of the campaign – which was held at Lydden Hill over the Easter weekend.
The fact that the Easter event was a double-header meant Tony was forced to miss the opening two rounds of the season, but his strong showing at Mondello Park means Tony currently lies fourth in the standings and just 20 points away from top spot.
Although he hasn’t competed in anger at Lydden Hill since last season, Tony did head for the spiritual home of rallycross earlier in the summer to take part in a new legends event where he hit the track for a series of demonstration runs in the Toyota.
Having also enjoyed a successful outing in a sprint event at Aintree since the Mondello Park round, Tony heads to Kent confident about once again pushing towards the sharp end of the field.
“It feels like ages since we were at Mondello Park and I’m looking forward to getting back on track this weekend at Lydden Hill,” he said.
“The fact that we missed the visit earlier in the season has changed our approach to 2024, as we know it will be a big ask for us to try and challenge for a title having not taken part in the opening two rounds.
“At the same time however, it means there is no real pressure on us going into the weekend and we can put our full focus onto going out to push for victory.
“Like most people, I love Lydden Hill as a circuit with its history and heritage, and I see no reason why we can’t look to challenge for wins during the weekend ahead.”
