Landsail Team Geriatric readies for Lydden Hill opener

Wigan racer Tony Lynch will hope to impress at the wheel of his new-look Toyota MR2 when the new Retro Rallycross season kicks off this weekend at Lydden Hill.

The Kent circuit – widely regarded as the spiritual home of the sport – will play host to the opening two rounds of the season, with Retro Rallycross once again running as part of the support bill for the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy.

In what will be his third season in Retro Rallycross, Tony and his family-run Team Geriatric outfit have worked hard over the winter to improve the Toyota, which will sport a striking new livery this season thanks to the ongoing support of Landsail Tyres.

Improvements to the body work have been completed in order to reduce weight, whilst a new gearbox has been fitted and work carried out on both the engine and suspension to ensure Tony is in the best place possible for the opening rounds.

With the Toyota having already shown itself to be capable of fighting for wins in the competitive Retro Rallycross field, Tony now heads into 2021 optimistic about his chances of success.

“Last year was a funny one for us all with the impact of COVID-19 limiting the number of events that could be run, but even then we could see the progress we were making with the car,” he said. “Over the winter, we’ve worked hard on upgrading the car and I can’t wait to get out on track this weekend and show what we can do.

“Lydden Hill is a circuit where I’ve enjoyed success in the past, and the car performed well there last year with two podiums from three rounds. I certainly feel that the car has improved since then, so my target is very much on trying to challenge for the top step of the podium to start our season in style.

“As well as the changes under the skin, we’re looking forward to debuting our new look, and huge thanks have to go to all of the sponsors and supporters who continue to back us this season.

“We’ll be giving our all to deliver success for them on track, and are also looking forward to entertaining rallycross fans in person as they return trackside.”

Tony and Team Geriatric are supported by Landsail Tyres, Lucas Oil, Pemberton Tyres, SignTec, Rye Motors, AVO Suspension, Waldron Motorsport Developments, Wigan Car Paints and Tootsies Footwear.
