Further success for Lynch at Pembrey
Wigan racer Tony Lynch enjoyed another successful weekend in his quest to secure the Autosport International BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship in partnership with Toyo Tires title with victory at Pembrey.
Tony and his Lucas Oil Team Geriatric squad made the trip to South Wales looking to build on a winning start to the year at Blyton – with two rounds taking place across the weekend.
Two wins from the three qualifying heats for round two of the season on Saturday allowed Tony to secure his place on the front of the grid for the all important final.
Leading from the start, Tony would ease away from the pack behind to secure victory for the second successive round; strengthening his championship position in the process.
Round three of the season would follow on Sunday, with Tony battling hard throughout with Patrick Ryan’s Vauxhall Nova – which had endured mechanical issues the previous day.
One heat win and pair of second places behind Ryan allowed Tony to qualify in second spot for the final, where he found himself embroiled in a heated battle with his rival for the win.
Running together throughout, Tony would chase Ryan to the flag before taking the chequered flag in second spot.
“It’s great to have picked up another win although it wasn’t an easy weekend on track,” he reflected. “The new layout proved to be very hard on the tyres but we were able to manage them quite well and could fight at the front throughout.
“Saturday pretty much went to plan but Sunday proved to be a much tougher affair. There were a few little niggles with the car but Patrick was also driving really well and we were close throughout the day.
“Even though he managed to grab the win, it was a really enjoyable battle – but we’ll be pushing hard to make sure we come out on top again next time!
“We know there are a few things we need to sort with the car now we have three rounds under our belt, but things are looking good in terms of the points and we need to make sure we maintain the form we have showed so far when we head back to Blyton next month.”
